a plan for meeeeeeee!

Posted By on August 30, 2010 in Thoughts and Feelings | 25 comments

So.
I might as well just say it.
Because, see, I’ve been making plans.
Yes, plans.
I know, it’s been a while.
See, they were some of the first things to go, back when my life did that thing where it looked like it was ending.
Oh life, you really got me with that one.
Silly life! tricks are for kids.
But then it turned out to be more like a caterpillar than anything else.
Because it didn’t end.
It was just in chrysalis, I guess.
And now I’m not gonna go around and start telling people that I’m a butterfly, but I will say that maybe life is like a butterfly.
But I don’t wanna say that I’m a butterfly because I don’t wanna sound like this guy I know.
He auditioned for Beauty and the Beast and, when they asked him if he was auditioning for the role of Beast, he said, “I’m not auditioning for the role of Beast, I am the Beast.”
He said it in a low and proud voice; he said it like he was Gaston telling people he was the Beast.
And yes, it was confusing.
And yes, he did sound a little ca-razy.
And no, he didn’t get the role.
But I will say that life is sometimes like a caterpillar, though I am not quite sure where to fit all those legs in the metaphor.
And life is sometimes like a cocoon, though that’s tough on people who get claustrophobic.
And life is sometimes like a butterfly, which is why my life is like a butterfly.
See?
But plans.
Because I have some.
Or at least one.
And I like it very much.
I take it with me everywhere I go.
Like that doll from the nineties called My Buddy, only way less creepy.
And it involves going to an open house in October.
An open house at a school.
Cause I am applying for grad school, folks.
And I’m gonna be going for the business of words and writing them down.
And there will be teachers and lots to learn and I think my whole face lights up when I talk about it, or at least that’s what my therapist said to me.
So this is my plan.
yay.
cue music and end scene.

It’s such a great plan!!! I can’t wait to see how it develops!

    • jessica August 30, 2010

      you and me both!
and grad school seems to be working out for someone else I know and love, so…;)

this sounds pretty darn excellent to me. :) All I want, and live for, is to see people that I care about shine in whatever they do. It’s really the beauty of humanity in my opinion. Here’s to life and here’s to always remembering that we are never afraid of being inadequate.. just afraid to show others that we are these shimmering, radiant beams of light.

*i can’t take credit for that last part.. but I felt it was fitting in the current conversation.

    • jessica August 30, 2010

well whoever wrote that last part, it was beautiful, so thanks for sharing it.
and the whole sentiment was yours, so yes, Rob–and I agree!:)

    • jessica August 30, 2010

      muchas gracias.

and sometimes life is like a butterfly sitting on a piece of you know what!!!!( i still can’t believe you saw that!!) and then the butterfly gets up and flies again..amazing!!! i love this and i am so happy for you and it just seems to fit so well, you going for writing. It brings you so much life and you love to learn..it makes me so happy!!!!!! love you!

    • jessica August 30, 2010

ahhhh yes, the butterfly perched on the crap.
      kinda perfect sometimes.
thanks so much for all your amazing encouragement, my dear friend!!!

New beginnings. Like the first little flowers that poke out of the ground in the spring. Exciting. A critical event in a person’s life always abruptly ends some things, but the good news it also starts brand new things that had never been considered before. It’s like a detour in life, but you see things you never would have seen going the old way. Yet you still arrive at the destiny God had for you all along. I’m excited for you!

    • jessica August 30, 2010

I certainly like the good news that you talk about here, mom–you give me such courage and strength!

  5. Pop August 30, 2010

A truly wonderful development! May every door needing to open swing wide in front of your determined steps forward! I’m proud of you. Through God you are strong, resilient, and brave, a great warrior daughter!

    • jessica August 30, 2010

      warrior daughter, huh?
maybe I should go to hunter college, then.
aren’t warriors usually pretty good hunters??? :-)

  6. Joe August 30, 2010

Awesome Jess. This sounds like a fantastic plan. Very exciting!

    • jessica August 30, 2010

thanks, Joe! I am pretty excited about it too:)

  7. Mandy August 30, 2010

Oh yay!! Congratulations! That is a good plan indeed! Also, we have grad schools in Dallas. FYI. Just in case you needed to know that.

    • jessica August 30, 2010

      wait.
you guys have schools out there?
      like, for learnin’ and stuff?
      okay, whoa.
      (j/k)
      Dallas has some rockin’ schools!

      • Mandy August 30, 2010

Yes!! Learning AND STUFF!! Both of those things! :)

        • jessica August 30, 2010

oh, I love it when places have STUFF!!!
STUFF is so hard to find these days.

  8. Lindsay August 30, 2010

So excited for you! I can’t wait to hear about your journey through grad school–even applying! You’ll write an amazing application essay. You are already a born writer, so it just makes sense that you should spend some time specializing in it and learning from others who love it too. It’s a beautiful plan.

    • jessica August 30, 2010

linds! you helped me come up with it! so I have you to thank–you and collin!! thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou:)

  9. shane August 31, 2010

groovy. grad school is good times.
and so is Beauty and the Beast…

    • jessica August 31, 2010

I’m actually hoping to find a grad school that somehow combines Beauty and the Beast with the curriculum.
      fingers crossed.
(for those of us who are lucky enough to have fingers to cross)

jessica…it is so obvious that you have multiple gifts….and writing is one of them!….how about writing a broadway musical?! with songs and lyrics!

    • jessica September 2, 2010

I’d love to write a broadway musical….I think Jase and I actually have a pretty good thing going with the musicals we’ve written thus far and I’d have absolutely nothing against seeing them go farther;-)

and thanks for the compliment–that’s really kind.

  11. Nina September 3, 2010

This is a wonderful plan. I’m happy for you. :)
