in which I make you look at an adorable puppy and then you thank me.

There are some things that are so cute, I bite my teeth. And this seems to be involuntary; I cannot help it.

When something is too cute for words, I set my jaw so that my chin sticks forward a little–successfully maneuvering an underbite–and then I bite down. I’m not sure why. But there are so many mysteries on this earth already, that I don’t think it’s gonna upset any kind of balance by just adding this one more to the pile.

Now, this happens almost exclusively with my nieces and nephews and adorable animals. And I am especially prone to biting my teeth around puppies. I’ve always loved animals–in fact, I used to want to grow up to be a vet. But then my parents forced me into ballet and apparently my feet point pretty well, so that was that. I wonder what would have happened if they had forced me into the FFA instead.

But I have a weakness for puppies. Dogs, too. Actually, people sometimes make fun of me because I tend to wave to dogs–or even say hello to them–when out and about, while unintentionally ignoring their human companions. I suppose that’s considered rude. But then, I suppose one should ask who we’re considering here–cause I bet the dogs don’t think it’s rude. Just saying.

But anyway.

When Shane and I were tuning on Mole street the other day, a very adorable thing happened. He opened his guitar case, grabbed his guitar, and in jumped one of the furriest and cutest little dogs I’d ever seen. We all started laughing and it was just one more thing that made Mole Street magical, I suppose.

And another good part of this story is that our friend Jimmy captured the moment with his camera. So you can see just how cute it really was. And you can see that even the puppy was pretty happy about being in that guitar case. And in fact, it looks like he’s about to shake Shane’s hand.

And if you want to bite your own teeth cause of that puppy’s cute factor, then I say go ahead.

And I just really like this one.

The brick, the cement, the pastel blue chalk, the text. It makes me smile. And no, I didn’t write it.

      agree.

  2. jason April 20, 2010

Are you sure that’s not a fox!?

    • jessica April 20, 2010

Well, seeing as Christian is the resident fox expert, I was gonna ask for his opinion…

      • Christian April 21, 2010

Definitely not a fox, no. But maybe a monkey. I’ll have to ask Elliot.

I wish I could have gone to mole street – sounds so cool. So do the mole people live there? Cause that’s downright awesome.

        • jessica April 21, 2010

oh the mole people!!!! I LOVE them. and am simultaneously scared of them. kind of like snakes. and now I probably just offended the mole people, comparing them to snakes like that…

I do the same thing with my teeth! When we got zuri I was seriously afraid that I might break a tooth.

    • jessica April 20, 2010

Collin–this is amazing. I’ve never met anyone else who does this! I’m so glad you understand!!

      • Collin April 20, 2010

I don’t know when or how it started, but I noticed it several years ago. I have tried to stop, but it still happens all the time. When I encounter something too cute for words I find myself in serious risk of splitting a tooth! That is so funny that you do that too!!

        • jessica April 20, 2010

And apparently lyric does, too…between the two of you, at least I know I’m in really good company! And you’re totally right: it’s absolutely involuntary, so I might as well just go with it:)

    • jessica April 20, 2010

      Thanks, sarah!:)

“the paper janes” written in chalk, you guys are on the rise! Look at you with fans signing your name all over town. I love it!!!! Like you boo, I have the same reaction toward dogs! I LOVE THEM, and this pic is way too cute, and I want to shake that puppy’s hand. so so so cute. Brewster say’s hello btw!

    • jessica April 20, 2010

Ohhhh brewster!!! I miss him!! Please tell him that i say hello and that I hope to see him in the near future…:)

  6. Mom April 20, 2010

LOVE the pic! And I also say hi to dogs and cats. Maybe even fish.

Just for the record……I gave you the choice to do one of 3 things: either you could learn to swim (but you were scared of water), or you could horseback ride (but you were scared of horses), or you could dance. You chose dance as the least threatening thing to do. The purpose of making you choose something was that you only wanted to stay at home and read and since you were homeschooled, I didn’t want you to be totally isolated from the rest of the world.

    • jessica April 20, 2010

and just for the record–I wasn’t scared of water. I just didn’t want to wear a bathing suit in front of kids because my skin was so dry I thought that they’d make fun of me. I know, that’s pitiful.

I don’t know too much about these things, but that Paper Janes picture might look kind of nice on a cd cover or liner or whatever those things are called.

    • jessica April 20, 2010

Too bad it didn’t say “lady papers” cause then it could look really good on liners;-)

  8. peaj April 20, 2010

    Thank you.

  9. Lyrlie April 20, 2010

WHAT?!?! I commented earlier on this!! UGHHHHH!! Well I said that I have to go to school soon, ( even though now school is over) and I am hurried to write, but all I have to say is that I bite my jaw thingy too, and it’s unstoppable! I think we should start a club!! And then I said Whoops, gotta go but I love you so much!!!!!! And it’s actually true. So when are we having that dance party?

    • jessica April 20, 2010

well we need to have this dance party once we do two things: 1. secure you a pair of yellow pants. 2. be in the same state. In June, we WILL be (!!!!!!), so we just gotta make sure we get you those yellow pants!!!!!! Can’t wait, Lyr-and I love you too. And I love that you bite your teeth when things are too cute for words. You, me, and Collin need to get together and do that sometime. :)

I totally say hi to dogs and cats and ignore the owners when they come into the vet hehe. (well not technically, I have to acknowledge the humans as part of greeting the client, but then I’m all about the animal they have with them) I’ve been there 5 years and know a lot of the “frequent flyer” clients on sight, but a lot of times I can’t remember their last name if they come in without their respective pets! Some of are just more tuned in to the animals than others… :) Humans I can take or leave….but animals….I almost always like them, even when they try to kill me! (see that death threat was aimed at myself, aren’t you proud I left a whole post without threatening someone or something :) )

    • jessica April 20, 2010

hahahaha you’re so funny–and yes, I am totally proud of you! And hey–at least you weren’t LAUGHING HYSTERICALLY because the Bible talked about someone almost dying….not that I would ever do that…;-)
