the sun’s still yellow.

Posted By on March 27, 2010 in MP3, Performance | 16 comments

I don’t know why, but weekends tend to feel a little sad for me.

I know, shocker.

Why in the world would I feel sad?

ha.

But this is what I like to do when I’m sad. Dig in. Seriously. Because I can. There was a time when I couldn’t, you know. When staying alive was my major goal and every day that I did was a good day, comparatively.

So instead of staying inside some potentially sad thoughts, I snuck over to the church and got lost in music. And I outfitted my treewood guitar with a strap, so when I stood up I realized I could swing treewood around to my back; and I suddenly felt like a rock star and smiled despite all of the good reasons that would keep me from doing so.

And I recorded two songs tonight.

Here’s one of them.

And ugh. I’m really annoyed at myself because the first time you hear me say fears, I should be saying tears. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Oh well.

But here you go.

Love it! I love how the vocals are rhythmic and articulate, and I like how the lyrics are narrative but also use metaphor and analogy. Your voice is strong and beautiful! Nice one.

thanks, lindsay–those are all really nice things to say–I really appreciate it:)

Linds, that’s good feedback – specific and pointed.

    Great song, Jess!

“So instead of staying inside some potentially sad thoughts, I snuck over to the church and got lost in music.”

And, in getting lost in the music…you find yourself. Keep digging in. I see lots of yellow in your future.

    • jessica March 27, 2010

well if the way the sun is casting some yellow around pretty generously today is any indication, than I’d have to say I agree with you about all the yellow in the future:)

I completely agree with the above comments. I was reading a book, called Stumbling On Happiness(which is interesting). There was one part where he was talking about how so many people complain about little things in their lives, but then when someone, like Christopher Reeves going quadriplegic, goes through an immense tragedy, it finally becomes clear to them that their happiness is not based on life circumstances, and it is based on your faith, and confidence in yourself. It is amazing, watching you grow and learn, and share your life with the world.

Thank you. I also was not kidding when I said that you are my favorite female vocalist. You truly are amazing. God has given you an awesome talent. I love that you are using it!

Huh, that book does sound really interesting. and yes, you’re so right abou our circumstances NOT being what dictates our sense of well-being or even who we are…and thank you again. How nice of you to say that, Rachel!!! :-)

I really like this song – love the story in the song! And the line about just crying because you got caught. Perf to the max.

    • jessica March 27, 2010

thanks, Jase. and haha, way to abbreviate two out of the four words of your last sentence!

        • jessica March 28, 2010

          four outta four.
          Impressive.

“Everytime you cry I wonder if it’s just because you got caught.” LOVE that line.
