all for some snow boots

Posted By on December 19, 2009 in Funny Stuff, Loved Ones, photography, Thoughts and Feelings | 11 comments

Today I awoke to snow.

A lot of snow.

My window was fuzzy with it and the tree that normally stands proudly outside was dancing wildly about at the wind’s insistence. I wonder if it will be awkward next time I see that tree. If it will be a morning after experience.  The tree will be back to its staid existence once again but I will have seen it dancing like a drunken gypsy the day before and it will know I had seen it dancing like a drunken gypsy the day before but still, neither of us will say a thing. Me, because I don’t want to add insult to shame and the tree, because it can’t talk.

I went outside for just a bit.

But without the proper foot attire for such a winter wonderland.

Not all of us are blessed with large and thick furred paws, you know.

Which is why my pop jumped at the chance to test out his big old truck in this blizzard.
To get me some snow boots.
Seems just as good a reason as any other to risk our lives on the roads, right?

So we bundled ourselves up, and were on our way.

My pop drove over a snow covered median on a highway and pled innocence. He said that he didn’t know the snow was hiding a median but I wonder because once my sister informed him of this while we were midway over the hump he said, alright dudes! which sounded a little too jovial if you ask me.

All I can say is that it is a good thing my mom wasn’t there and maybe even a better thing a cop wasn’t there.

But we stopped at one shoe store just in time for the salesman to close up shop on us. And not even my pop’s pleading could get him to change his mind. I think the guy wanted to get home. Safely, to be specific. I got the impression that he is not the kind of person who says alright dudes! when he accidentally drives over snow covered medians, if you know what I mean.

So we went to Burlington Coat Factory and true to it’s promise, they do have more than just coats.

They have these.

Or rather, they had these. Until I showed up and, like a kid who just couldn’t wait, happily wore them out of that place and back into the snow and back into the truck that runs over snow covered medians which may or may not be an accident.

But if you are my mom or if you are a cop it definitely was.

And then I got home and did this.

I’m glad you had some fun in the snow, Jess…and that you found some snow boots…and got back safely…median notwithstanding. :-)

thanks! my pop loves the danger of it, but I clutched my sister’s knee many a time, I have to admit.

I love that first picture with you and Strider. Wish we could have been there too!

I do too–more than you know! You have to see the dogs bounding through the snow–it’s like their legs are made of springs in this weather and it makes me laugh! I hope you make it out tomorrow!!!!

You know Pop loves to get out in the bad weather! Yeah, it was a good thing that the truck only takes 3 people. I would have been doing more than clutching Jen’s knee—hey WHICH knee did you clutch? I hope it wasn’t the healing knee!

hahaha, mom–I think it was the one that’s okay. At least, she didn’t complain…

You are so blessed to have such a caring and loving Pop that he braved the bad weather (read: found a great excuse to play) to get you something you need. And you even managed to get cute boots too!

OH i know–when he first suggested going out I was like, but even the News Journal said to stay in and he was like, What’s a truck for!?!?!?!?! :-)
